The 17th Annual Three Rivers HarmonyFest will be held on Main St. in downtown Three Rivers Sunday,
September 5th. More than 7 bands and the winner of the HarmonyIdol talent contest are scheduled to
perform. HarmonyFest is a free, yearly celebration of diversity in our community through music

The Stimsonics will kick off the event. The StimSonics was founded in 1994 by drummer Alan Harris and
fellow Brit, lead guitarist Brian Maturi. Originally called Al’s Basement Band (ABB), early band members
include John Dillworth, Keyboards, John Brown, 12 String Guitar and Tim Morrison Rhythm Guitar. All of
whom, are still with the band today.

The band was later joined by the multi-talented Art Demulder on lead vocals/Guitar. Most recent
members include accomplished Bass Guitarist Tommie Lee Williams and percussion aficionado,
Drummer Rod Wall.

With its music influenced by members hailing from a variety of cities, states and countries, The
StimSonics performs a diverse mix of good old Rock ‘n’ Roll dance favorites, Blues and Classic Rock with
a distinct British accent.

Spur of the Moment follows with a blend of funk, jazz, blues, and R&B. Real smooth and great live.
Marshel Andrews (88 Keys)- Keys, Vocals. Robert Trevino (Bobbo)- Bass Guitar/ Vocals. George Clay-
Drums/Vocals. Erin Garcia- Guitar/Vocals. Special guest- Big Poppa Fiq, Drums. Special guest- Moni Faith,
Saxophone.

Half Pint Jones is a colorful five-piece project of sophisticated funk, jazz, and rock sprinkled with the
musical flavors of New Orleans. This dynamic group was birthed during the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina and is rooted to staying true to all musical and spiritual influences; keeping their music honest
and fresh. Based in South Bend, Indiana, these five musicians have come together to express a new,
organic, manner of story-telling and musical improvisation, while maintaining a completely relatable
sound. Mark Gamble, Trumpet/ percussion. Steve Krojniewski, Drums/Percussion. Chris Olivier,
Saxophone/Percussion. Justin Ross, Guitar/Lead Vocal. Jayson Sites, Bass/Vocals

Methodstar, with Nathan Moore on Vocals (and a little harmonica) and Nich Martin on Guitar/
Mandolin/Ukulele, plays original acoustic indie-soul with a few covers thrown in for good
measure.

Lady Sunshine and the X Band. Lady Sunshine will be lighting up the stage as the headliner of the
17thAnnual HarmonyFest. Born to sing the blues on a plantation near The Mississippi Delta in West
Helena Arkansas, Lady Sunshine grew up singing gospel music as a little girl and is definitely the ‘real
deal’! Sunshine is the consummate entertainer and that deep soulful southern hunger that drives
her is apparent both on and off the stage through her heartfelt originals and down-to-earth demeanor.
She moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1975 and began performing professionally in genres such as Blues,
R&B, Gospel, Soul & Jazz. Although Sunshine lives in the heartland of the University of Michigan
Wolverines, the chants of ‘Let’s Go Blue’ take on a whole different meaning for her.

The X-Band is a group of groove monsters that have one objective and one objective only…to
collectively get people out of their seat and dancing to their phat sounding grooves. Along with the explosive power of the Xsatiable horns, it’s no wonder people can’t seem to sit down after hearing the
infectious groove of the X-Band. These masters of the groove are why people consider them to be “The
Baddest Band In All The Land!” “Slick” Rick Humesky, Lead Guitar/Music Director. Kito Pardo
Drummer. Geno Leverett, Bass Guitar. Tom “Fossdog” Fosselman, Keyboards/Hammond Organ. Patrick
Padilla, Tenor Saxophonist/Section Leader, David G. Maki II, Alto/Baritone Saxophonist. Ken Ferry
Trumpet/Flugal Horn.

Just Jammin’ is a recent incarnation consisting of the members of Sons of Man, Andy Johnson, guitar/
vocals, Scott Adamson, vocals, and newcomer to the area Scott Marshall, lead guitar/vocals. With
influences spread across 40 years of music Just Jammin’ is a blend for all ages. Pink Floyd, Incubus,
Stevie Ray Vaugh, and Jimmy Hendix are among their influences.

Douglas James Band. Formed in 2004 by front man Douglas James, this Southern Michigan based
quartet quickly built a reputation as a must-see country band. Whether playing contemporary country,
which is the core of the band’s song list, classic country, or rock, the band adds their own energetic flair
to each song they play. The band’s sound has been compared to Big and Rich and Garth Brooks. “Fan-
Friendly” is how many describe this band. Beyond the obvious musical talent, what sets this band apart
from other bands is their ability to mold their show around their immediate audience. Douglas listens
and watches and takes every opportunity to include the audience in the show. Douglas James – Vocals/
Guitar. Kurt Huckendubler – Bass/Vocals. Bruce Shockley – Guitar/Vocals/Harmonica. Al Butrick – Drums.

KidsFest is in the Mural Mall from 3-5 with games and activities for the kids.

Please, no dogs, glass, alcohol, bikes, skates, or skateboards.

Food vendors and restaurants will be open. Bring a lawn chair.

1:30 the Stimsonics

3:15 Spur of the Moment

5:00 Half-Pint Jones

6:15 HarmonyIdol Winner

6:30 Methodstar

7:15 Lady Sunshine and the X-Band

9:00 Just Jammin’

9:45 Douglas James band

Featured as the headlining act will be Lady Sunshine and the X Band. Below is an expert from the band’s website.

Lady Sunshine was born to sing the blues. Born on a plantation near the Mississippi Delta in West Helena Arkansas, Lady Sunshine grew up singing gospel music as a little girl and is definitely the ‘real deal’! Sunshine is the consummate entertainer and that deep soulful southern hunger that drives her is apparent both on and off the stage through her heartfelt originals and down-to-earth demeanor. Although Sunshine lives in the heartland of the University of Michigan Wolverines, the chants of ‘Let’s Go Blue’ take on a whole different meaning for her.

The Rhythm Section, comprised of (Slick) Rick Humesky on guitar, Kito Pardo on drums, Larry Baulden on bass, and Tom (Fossdog) Fosselman on keyboards, is a rock steady groove machine with such a deep pocket that no matter what style you ask for, be it Blues, Funk, R&B, Soul, Rock, Jazz or Latin, you’ll get a groove that is authentic, precise and pumpin’.

The ‘Xsatiable Horns’ are comprised of Patricio Padilla, David Maki II, and Ken Ferry. These cats are powerful, air-tight, horn phonemes, accustomed to playing as a compact and symbiotic unit in addition to being virtuosic soloists in their own right. Their ‘Phat’ sound has been described as a fusion of the Memphis Horns, James Brown Horns, and Tower of Power Horns rolled into one unique and Xsatiable package.

The Three Rivers HarmonyFest Committee welcomes Nathan Moore to the Board of Directors. He and his partner have lived in Three Rivers for 16 years. Nathan works for the Fetzer Institute in Kalamazoo on the communication and outreach team. When it comes to music, he has been singing in bands and groups for a majority of his life; most recently in a blues band aptly named The Blues Shed. He also sings for an acoustic soul duo known as Methodstar. In addition to his new role with HarmonyFest, Nathan is a board member for a historical arts collaborative in Kalamazoo known as FIRE and a board member for KGLRC.

The HarmonyFest Committee is very glad to have Nathan as part of the team. “Nathan has some really good credentials, but he is also just an all around great guy. We’re super excited to have him with us,” says board member, Andy Brown. As an essential part of the 2010 event, Nathan will be working on festival logistics and backstage coordination.

With spring just around the corner, preparations for the 2010 HarmonyFest are already in full bloom. This week the music selection committee announced that is has signed Lady Sunshine and the X-Band for this year’s festival.

Lady Sunshine and the X-Band was formed in 1994 and has been causing quite a stir since then. The Stax-Volt legacy is definitely alive and kickin’ with these players! This group is a product of the ‘Motor City’ and is a reflection of the very essence of Detroit – Emotion, Fire, Pride, and Soul. The LSX Band has had the honor to share the stage with Blues/R&B notables Koko Taylor, Bobby Rush, Little Milton, Roomful of Blues, War, Liquid Soul, Sir Mack Rice, Spyder Turner,The Chicago Blues Legends-PineTop Perkins, Willie Big Eyes Smith, James Cotton, Carrie and Lurrie Bell, Lonnie Baker Brooks, Hubert Sumlin, Bob Margolin, Lil ED and the Blues Imperial’s, Maurice John Vaughn, James Smith, Bobbie Rogers, Maurice Davis, Tommy Castro et al. to rave reviews.
Lady Sunshine was born to sing the blues. Born on a plantation near the Mississippi Delta in West Helena, Arkansas, Lady Sunshine grew up singing Gospel music as a little girl and is definitely the “Real Deal”. Sunshine is the consummate entertainer and that deep soulful southern hunger that drives her is apparent both on and off the stage through her heartfelt originals and Down-To-Earth demeanor. She moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1975 and began performing professionally in genres such as Blues, R&B, Gospel, Soul and Jazz.
The rhythm section of Rick Humesky, Kito Pardo, Joe Aranda and Tom Fosselman is a rock steady groove machine with such a deep pocket that no matter what style you ask for, be it Blues, Funk, R&B, Sould, Rock, Jazz or Latin, you’ll get a groove that is authentic, precise and pumpin’!
“The X-Satiable Horns” are comprised of Patricio Padilla, David G. Maki II and Ken Ferry. These cats are powerful, air-TIGHT, horn phenomes accustomed to playing as a compact and symbiotic unit in addition to being virtuostic soloists in their own right. Their “Phat” sound has been described as a fusion of the Memphis Horns, James Brown Horns and Tower of Power Horns all rolled into one Unique and “XSATIABLE” package. – From the Lady Sunshine and the X-Band myspace page
